Finding a Lawyer in Florida
You can buy property in Florida without using a lawyer, simply
by relying on the estate agent, broker and title-closing agent
to oversee the deal, and some agents will advertise the house-buying
process as ‘lawyer-free’.
But this is not advisable for foreign buyers, whose house purchases
invariably through up far more issues. Local estate agents may
not be aware of the best options available to UK buyers and you
may find it a false economy to stint on lawyer’s fees. You
need someone to represent you and to check all contracts.
Once you have made an offer on a property, we will help you find
a title lawyer. He or She will establish if there are any problems
with the property, such as any outstanding mortgages. As most
of the properties in Florida are new and US legislation is tight,
there are far fewer complications than with house-buying in Europe.
It is also easy to arrange title insurance, to protect you against
any problems that may arise in the future.
At the time of completion, all signing of documents is done through
a notary, who is paid to ensure that both parties understand their
legal obligations.
